Media Studies includes the following Departments:

  • Still-Based
    The still-based curriculum focuses on photography, photo illustration, studio, digital imaging.
  • Time-Based
    Time-based studies include animation, interactive design, motion picture, and video courses.

Media Studies Upcoming events Spring 2008

Feb. 1- Toon Boom Technologies workshop

Representatives from Toon Boom Animation will conduct a daylong workshop for student sand faculty about their 2D animation application Opus. This in-depth look at this exciting tool will be of interest to all animation students.

Opus is the industry standard animation tool used by most major animation and production studio around the world.

February 5&6 Tibor Nemeth photographer

Tibor Nemeth studied photography at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. Upon graduation in 1993, he relocated to Boston. Over the last 9 years Tibor has photographed sports celebrities including Lance Armstrong, Mia Hamm, Greg Norman, Roger Clemens, and Freddy Adu. He worked to document the 2002 Winter Olympics for the Salt Lake Winter Olympic Commemorative Book. He specializes in shooting large-scale advertising. He has shot campaigns for Nike, New Balance, Subaru, The Ritz Carlton, Reebok, and Volkswagon to name a few.

Recent events and awards Fall 2007

Bill & Michelle Tessier: Visiting artist - Oct 1 2007

The Tessiers graduated from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television with MFAs in animation. Their credits include Making Fiends, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, The Polar Express, Open Season, Flushed Away, and Bee Movie. Michelle and Bill will discuss the transition from students to animation industry professionals and their work as filmmakers.

Rob Burton -Nov.2nd 2007

Rob Burton is a 25-year veteran of the motion picture visual effects and animation industry. He is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of IT infrastructure, workflow design, and technology management for visual effects and animation production. His expertise comes from decades of experience accessing, applying, and using emerging technologies to create efficient, artist-friendly production tools and environments. He has worked on Oscar-winning projects such as The Abyss and Total Recall, as well as the Oscar-nominated films Armageddon and Mighty Joe Young. Some of his more recent projects include The Chronicles of Narnia(2), Lord of the Rings, and Disney’s animated feature The Wild.

Pipeline Project - Nov 2 ,2007

Over the last 5 week student have written, directed and produced a 30 sec spot for Nationwide Insurance’s ad campaign “Life Comes at you Fast.”

Rob Burton will review and discuss the completed CCAD Media Studies student project “Santa Comes At You Fast” with the student production team.

Rebecca Fain -Oct 29

Rebecca Fain is the photo editor of Revolver Magazine. She spoke to senior photography students about careers in photo editing and in the entertainment industry.

Scott Massey Nov. 27

Vancouver based photographer Scott Massey spoke to students about his environmentally based landscapes. Scott’s work was included in the recent “Consumption Junction” exhibition at CCAD.
