Residence life PoliciesCCAD Residence Halls are designed to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our students. The importance of the living environment of the student with respect to his or her college career cannot be over emphasized. A great deal of growth occurs in a person’s life between the ages of 18 and 22. Within the classroom, the talents and intellectual abilities of the student are developed, while outside the classroom, growth on emotional and personal levels is achieved. Residence life can play an important role in this development. It is the shared responsibility of the college and the students to ensure that this tremendous opportunity for growth is realized to its fullest. The rules and regulations contained within this booklet have been established to contribute to this achievement. They represent a combined effort of the students and administration to establish policies that are not overly restrictive, but at the same time, ensure mutual consideration of residents to provide safe, secure, and comfortable accommodations for everyone. The Student Handbook and all other written CCAD policies are considered to be a part of the housing agreement. CCAD reserves the right to alter its policies when it deems necessary for the good of the students and the institution. Students are responsible for reading and understanding the contents of the Student Handbook. Students who violate these policies or other policies of the college or who otherwise engage in actions or activities in the residence halls that are illegal, that negatively impact the lives of residents, are unacceptable behaviors, or are disruptive to the peaceful and secure environment of residence life will be subject to disciplinary action, which may include dismissal from the residence hall or from the college. Students should take special note regarding the prohibitions against the use of alcoholic beverages, the illegal use of drugs, and the proper behavior of guests. Alcohol and DrugsCCAD prohibits the unlawful use, possession, distribution, or sale of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and alcohol by students on or off the premises. No alcohol is permitted at student events such as student exhibitions. Alcoholic beverages and containers, whether full or empty, are also not permitted in the residence halls or classrooms. Students may not be under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances while on college property. Additionally, students may not be in the immediate vicinity of alcohol or other drugs when such substances are knowingly being used in a prohibited manner. AppliancesStudents are permitted to bring one small refrigerator per bedroom and microwave per suite (not one per student). The refrigerator and/or microwave must comply with stated guidelines of size and amperage. Additionally, students are permitted to have a vertical toaster unit, but toaster ovens are not permitted. No other cooking appliances are permitted without first receiving permission from the director of residence life. Behavior and DisciplineAt all times, residents are expected to conduct them selves in a manner consistent with the high ideals and standards of the college. Students who violate the rules and policies of the residence halls or of CCAD may be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the Student Handbook. Such action may include, but is not limited to, warnings, fines, restitution, disciplinary probation, suspension, or dismissal from the residence halls or college. Building SecurityExcept for the food service area, the outside doors to the building are kept locked at all times. Residents may enter with their student ID card. The resident assistants, director of residence life, or designated college personnel conduct regular checks of the premises in conjunction with college security personnel to ensure building security and safety. Anyone entering the residence halls may be asked to present proper identification (e.g. a valid driver’s license) to residence life or security staff. To ensure the safety of residents, anyone entering the residence halls may be asked to empty the contents of their bags, satchels, or purses in view of a staff person. Please refer to more information in the “guests” policy section. CafeteriaThe cafeteria is located on the lower level of the Schottenstein Residence Hall. All first-year students residing in the residence halls must participate in the meal plan. Through this plan, students receive 19 meals per week as follows: Monday – Friday Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Residence hall residents must pay fees before occupancy to take full advantage of the meal plan. Students must present their ID to the cafeteria cashier at each meal. Lost cards should be reported to the director of residence life immediately. A new card will be issued for a $25 replacement fee. Serving hours for hot-line items are as follows: Monday – Friday Hot-line items are only available during the hours indicated above. When eating at nonstandard meal times, students may choose to pay on a cash basis for food if they wish to reserve the meal plan for use during hours when the cafeteria is open. Students attending a field trip off campus during normal meal times should see the cafeteria manager for information on meals. The cafeteria is closed during vacation periods, including Thanksgiving, winter break, and spring break. General cafeteria guidelines are as follows: * Proper attire (including shirts and shoes) must be worn at all times when in the cafeteria or vending machine areas. * Students must present their ID card at every meal or they will not be allowed to eat on the meal plan. * Students on the meal plan may have food “to go” as long as the food is in proper carryout containers. Cancellation of the Housing Agreement and RefundsOnce the housing agreement is signed, cancellation is only possible upon withdrawal or involuntary dismissal from the college or from the residence hall. Students who sign a housing agreement but take up residency elsewhere will be charged for the agreed accommodations (room and board) for the entire year and will be subject to disciplinary actions if the departure is without permission. Nonpayment of the housing fee will result in the withholding of services through the records office and possible dismissal from the college. It is assumed that students who sign a housing agreement have considered, in advance, monetary concerns, health problems, religious concerns, and other circumstances that might prevent them from living in a residence hall. Check-in/Check-outStudents may check into their rooms on or after the designated opening day at the beginning of the academic year. Students who arrive in town earlier should find temporary accommodations elsewhere until the residence hall opens. Upon entering the residence halls, students will be given a packet of information containing the Student Handbook, emergency and fire escape procedures, room-inventory form, room key, and a student ID that opens the outside doors and the elevator. The student should check the furniture that he/she is responsible for as indicated on the room-inventory form, noting any discrepancies. The remainder of the registration form should be filled out, signed, and returned to the Residence Life staff at the front desk. Discrepancies in furniture or any room damage should be reported within 14 days of check-in. Students must check out of the residence hall no later than 2 p.m. the day following the last day of final exam week of fall term. Check-in for spring term begins the Saturday before classes resume. At the end of spring term all students must check out of the residence hall no later than 9 p.m. the Saturday after the last day of finals week. Upon leaving the residence hall, students must clean their rooms thoroughly. All trashcans should be emptied. No personal belongings or clutter of any kind should be left. Students should ensure that all of their room’s original furniture is present at the time of checkout. There will be a charge for furniture that must be moved to another room. Keys must be returned. Doors should be locked. Any personal property left at the end of the academic year will be discarded. Clean-UpResidents are responsible for keeping their living area clean at all times. CCAD will care for common hallways, lounges, and stairways. However, residents are expected to assist in this effort by exercising general habits of cleanliness. Trash should never be allowed to accumulate. If, upon inspection, CCAD personnel note excessive uncleanliness in the living quarters, residents of those quarters may be fined. Accumulation of trash in common areas may result in fines to the entire resident population. Damage ChargesResidents are responsible for the proper care of furniture, equipment, and all items made available for their use while living in the residence hall. Any damage should be reported to the front desk of the residence hall. Charges for damages will be assessed against the responsible individual. If no specific person can be identified or if the damage is in a general area, charges will be assessed evenly against all residents in the room. Damages to common areas of the residence hall are charged against the entire resident population. Typical charges may include, but are not limited to, damage to floors (such as cut tiles), furniture (i.e., marks, cuts, paint, fixatives), kitchen equipment, windows, security doors, spray booth, carpets (paint, rips, or stains), ceiling tiles, lobby furniture and equipment, elevator, fire safety equipment (damaged or missing), cafeteria dishes or tableware (damaged or missing), or acts of vandalism. Charges may be deducted from the security deposit or charged to the residents for immediate reimbursement to CCAD. Damages in excess of the amount of the security deposit will be charged to the residents directly. Residents are permitted to hang items on the interior walls of their individual living quarters only. Masking tape is the only authorized adhesive to be used. Nails, tacks, poster putty, or any hanging devices that cause damage to the walls are not permitted. If you have questions about adhesives, please ask your resident assistant. There is to be no painting of walls and furniture. Cutting of materials should only be done on appropriate surfaces, such as cutting boards. Director of Residence LifeThe director of residence life is responsible for the efficient operation of the residence halls. This responsibility carries with it the authority to deal with problems and situations as they arise. Residents are to follow the directives of the director of residence life at all times. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action. The director of residence life is available to assist students with any difficulty that may arise relating to residency. However, at times when he/she is not officially on duty, he/she should be disturbed only in the case of a true emergency. Otherwise, security personnel, resident assistants or other responsible persons should be contacted or wait until the director of residence life is available. DisabilitiesIf you have a documented disability as described by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (PL 933-112 Section 504) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that may have an affect on your living conditions (seizure disorder, asthma, depression, anxiety) in the CCAD residence halls, contact disability services at 222.3295. We can assist you and the director of residence life in formulating a reasonable accommodation plan, and provide support in developing appropriate accommodations for your living environment. Disciplinary ActionThe student affairs staff will deal with violations of college housing policy according to established disciplinary procedures. The dean of students will be notified of all serious violations. Students have the right to a hearing before suspension from the residence hall unless there is a reason to believe that the student poses a substantial threat to person(s) or property that may warrant immediate action prior to a hearing. Fines or other disciplinary action for an infraction of residence hall or college policies, or rules and regulations, as indicated in the housing agreement, Student Handbook, or other written or oral communication, may result from incident reports submitted to the dean of students. Students should be advised that the violation of college policies regarding the cleanliness of rooms, keeping of pets, unauthorized moving of furniture, unauthorized equipment (such as refrigerators), cafeteria dishes and utensils in the room, or any other violation of housing policies will result in fines and possibly additional sanctions. Fines or sanctions imposed as a result of lack of cleanliness of common areas cannot be appealed on the basis of lack of cooperation of fellow roommates since all residents of a room are individually responsible for room cleanliness in common areas. Students will be charged for excessive dirt, clutter, garbage, piles of dirty clothes and/or dirty dishes, and so forth. Cleanliness problems in common areas will be charged against all residents of the room. A room inspection that reveals cleanliness problems in three areas—the kitchen, the bathroom, and a resident’s individual living space—could result in fines for each room. Should the infractions not be rectified within one week of the initial inspection, an additional fine may be imposed, as well as other possible disciplinary actions. Learning to live with diverse individuals and sharing responsibilities and chores are considered positive aspects of residence life and part of the overall educational experience. If roommates are having difficulties such as sharing responsibilities regarding room cleanliness or coordinating visitors to the room, and a good faith effort has been made among roommates to work out these difficulties, then the resident assistant should be contacted to assist roommates to solve their problems. The resident assistant may request the director of residence life to require the roommates to sign a behavior contract that will hold the roommates to an agreement of personal conduct. Violation of this contract may be treated as a violation of college policy and can result in fines, mandated service, or other sanctions. Disruptive BehaviorResidence halls exist for living and serious study. Athletic or other physical activity, pranks, use of water guns, or mischievous behavior are often dangerous and disruptive and will not be tolerated. Screaming, yelling, running in the building, or any disruptive behavior inside or in the vicinity of the residence halls will not be permitted at any time and is subject to disciplinary sanctions. ElevatorThere is one elevator in the residence hall for student use. Students should be aware, however, that CCAD personnel who service the building and mobility impaired students and staff must have access to the elevator. Under normal circumstances, students are encouraged to use the stairways at either end of the building. Emergencies: FireEmergencies of any type should be reported to the coordinator of residence life or a resident assistant. In case of fire, residents should set off a fire alarm and evacuate the building. The elevator must not be used in a fire emergency. Residents should leave through the nearest exit and proceed to the parking lot across the street until further instructions are given. Failure to evacuate is cause for disciplinary action, which will likely include a $100 fine. Setting off a false alarm or tampering with fire-safety equipment is a serious matter and grounds for dismissal. Fire drills will be conducted periodically during the academic year. Residents will be given instruction on proper procedures. Emergencies: Severe WeatherIn case of a severe weather emergency or a tornado warning, a local emergency siren will sound. This siren is tested every Wednesday at noon. Upon hearing this siren during a weather emergency, residents must use the west stairwell to assemble in the ground-floor hallway. Residence life staff will then provide further instructions and indicate when it is safe to return to individual rooms. Fee PaymentRoom-and-board fees for fall term must be paid on or before the first day of occupancy. Fees for spring term must be paid on or before the first day of classes. Firearms & WeaponsFirearms, explosives, ammunition, firecrackers, knives, or weapons of any kind, including B-B guns, paintball guns, martial arts weapons, and antiques are not permitted in the residence hall. Additionally, replicas that can reasonably be assumed to be real weapons are prohibited. Weapons may be confiscated at the discretion of the residence life staff or security staff. Flammables and Open FlamesAs art students, residents are required to work with flammable solutions such as turpentine, solvents, rubber cement, and fixatives. These items should be stored very carefully. In the case of fire, smother fire or use chemical extinguishers in each room. Never use water to extinguish a chemical or grease fire. The disposal of turpentine, solvents, and other similar items should be done in the proper receptacles located in the painting studios in B&E. Such items must never be put down sink drains, in toilets, or placed in trashcans. Such methods of disposal are extremely dangerous and hazardous to health and the environment and are against the law. Such items should never be placed near heat. A special spray booth with appropriate ventilation for spraying paints is available on the fourth floor. Students must use this area for spraying fixatives and paints. The burning of candles or any similar items or device designed or used for the prolonged burning of an open flame (including the burning of incense) is prohibited anywhere in the residence halls. Similarly, large containers of compressed air are prohibited in the residence halls. Furniture and EquipmentEach room contains beds, drawing tables, chairs, cutting boards, wardrobes, storage drawers, a kitchen table, and trash cans. Each item is individually marked. Furniture may never be removed from any room. All students in the room are responsible for the care of the furniture. Any item that is damaged should be reported immediately to the coordinator of residence life so that appropriate individuals may be charged. Otherwise, the cost for damages will be assessed and charged to all students in the living unit. Students should not bring additional furniture or refrigerators from home. Students may bring microwaves, stereos, radios, small TVs, and musical instruments if they wish. Electronic instruments must be equipped with headphones. Drums are not permitted. Headphones must be used at all times to ensure private listening. Floor-stand, stereo speakers are not permitted. CCAD considers the use of such personal items a privilege and not a right. When stereophonic and similar equipment is played too loudly, students will be required to send the equipment home. “Too loudly” is defined as any sound that can be heard outside the student’s room. Roommates are expected to be considerate of one another in the use of such equipment. During “quiet hours,” all sound should be kept at a very low level and stereo equipment should be used with headsets only. Roommates who wish to sleep or otherwise desire quiet time have the right to request that stereos be turned off or headsets used. Weight-lifting equipment of any kind including barbells, dumbbells, or weights used in weight-lifting activities are not permitted in the residence halls. Students are not to install partitions of any kind (including curtains) within rooms. Students must not block access to windows in their room in case of emergency. Students should bring a pillow, blankets, sheets, towels, and all other necessary items for personal hygiene. Other items (e.g., desk lamp) may be purchased in the CCAD Supply Store. GamblingUnsanctioned gambling is not permitted in the residence halls or any other place on the CCAD campus. Garden AreasStudents are never to walk inside garden areas around the residence halls, the Canzani Center, or any area on campus where flowers, plants, or bushes may be disturbed or damaged. GraffitiGraffiti on or off campus is not tolerated. Graffiti is considered vandalism and carries severe disciplinary action. Any student apprehended for engaging in graffiti on or off campus may be subject to immediate dismissal from the residence halls and from the college. Students dismissed for graffiti will not be permitted to re-enroll. In addition, any student identified as the author of graffiti will be billed for the cost of the graffiti removal. GuestsGuests from outside the residence hall may visit in student rooms and lounges between the hours of 8 a.m. and midnight during the week and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Resident students may have one guest stay overnight in the residence hall on Friday or Saturday night contingent upon the documented approval of all roommates and with authorization from the director of residence life. Proper documentation must be received prior to the end of visitation hours on the night requested (2 a.m.). Nonresidents must sign-in at the front desk and leave a driver’s license or state photo ID while they are in the residence hall. Guests must first call the resident from the first-floor lobby, and residents must accompany guests to the rooms and floors. Visitation among residents is permitted at all times, however residents are asked to be considerate when visiting a room occupied by the opposite sex between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m. If any disagreement arises as to a visitor, the visitor must leave the room and any further visitation should occur in the lobby or outside the residence hall. At any time, the director of residence life may at his/her discretion deny access into the residence hall to any nonresident. Guests should be at least 18 years old, unless an exception is granted by the director of residence life. Heating and Air ConditioningEach room has its own thermostat allowing you to control the temperature within your room. For the convenience of the residents, students are asked to be responsible in the use of energy. Internet ConnectionsHigh-speed Internet connections are provided free of charge in each bedroom. However, usage of these connections must comply with CCAD’s policies regarding appropriate use of CCAD computers and telecommunication systems (see page 49). Additionally, students are expected to install and maintain adequate virus protection software to prevent problems from impacting the CCAD network system. Furthermore, students who consume an excessive amount of Internet bandwidth through usage of particular software or services, or who violate federal, state, or local laws through the Internet, may have their access suspended until the concern is resolved. KeysEach student is assigned a numbered key to his/her room. Additionally, residents’ student identification cards are coded to provide access to the Schottenstein Residence Hall and the elevator by swiping the card through a reader. In the interest of security, students should carry their room key and student ID card with them at all times. Residents are never to give their key or ID to another person. Additionally, individuals entering the residence hall may be asked to present their ID to a staff member to provide an additional security measure. Residence hall staff will track those residents who do not carry their key and ID. Students who accumulate two lock-outs will be charged $25, and students who accumulate three or more lock-outs will be charged $50. Residents who fail to show their ID five times will be charged $25. Lost keys and IDs must be reported immediately to the director of residence life for replacement. Failure to report a lost key or ID immediately to the director of residence life, or giving a key or ID to another person, is cause for disciplinary action. Residents will be charged $50 for the replacement of a key, or $25 for the replacement of a student ID. These charges reflect serious responsibility on the part of the student in helping to provide a safe living environment for all. It is not the responsibility of the residence hall staff to let residents into their rooms or the building. Students may be fined for locking themselves out of the building or their rooms. Residents are to return their keys through the standard check-out process at the end of the school year. LaundryCard-operated washers and dryers are available on the first floor for residents’ use only. This facility may only be used for washing and drying clothes belonging to residents. Repairs should be reported to the residence hall front desk. Laundry cards can be obtained from the dispensing machine in the Schottenstein Residence Hall. Money can also be added to your card at this machine. LoungesIn addition to the lounge in the main reception area on the first floor, there are lounges on the second, third, and fourth floors. The furniture in these areas is for the general use of the residents of the building and is not to be removed or moved to individual living quarters. Mailboxes are provided for residents and are located in the lobby area of the residence hall on the first floor. Residents should instruct those from whom they are expecting to receive mail to include a complete mailing address, including the individual room number. High security items such as checks or bank cards should be sent via registered mail. Mail will be distributed to the boxes on a daily basis, with the exception of weekends and holidays. CCAD cannot assume responsibility for lost or stolen mail. Between terms residence halls are closed. There is no access to the building to receive mail, packages, or express mail items between terms and during winter break and holidays. Personal PropertyCCAD assumes no responsibility for any personal property that the student brings to the college. Personal property, either in the rooms or in the storage area, remains the responsibility of the student. Residents are encouraged to obtain insurance to cover losses due to damage or theft. Lock your doors at all times, and use the lockboxes provided in your rooms. PetsAbsolutely no pets are permitted in the residence halls, with the exception of fish in an aquarium no larger than 10 gallons in size. PhonesOne phone number will be provided in each suite. CCAD provides local phone service. Students wishing to call long distance must use a calling card, call collect, or use another phone service to do so. Please see the residence life staff for more information on the phone system. Phones and phone charges are the student’s responsibility. The college will not intercede in disputes between roommates regarding phone bills. Quiet HoursCCAD expects that a peaceful, quiet environment will exist in residence halls at all times. Designated quiet hours are between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight to 8 a.m. Friday through Saturday. However, all noise should be kept at a minimum level to provide time for rest and study. Recreation EquipmentSome recreation equipment is available from the residence hall office. Students may use the equipment by ensuring its return with their student ID. There is a student recreation area located in the student center. RepairsEmergency situations should be reported to the director of residence life, resident assistant, or security officer immediately. General repairs should be reported in writing and turned in to the front office as soon as possible. Repairs will be made in as timely a manner as possible, but residents should realize that not all problems can be handled immediately, and that some patience must be exercised, especially when parts must be ordered or arrangements must be made with contractors. Requirement to On-Campus LivingDegree-seeking single students under the age of 21 entering CCAD for the first time must reside in a residence hall for the entire academic year (fall and spring terms). Other single, full-time upperclass students may also live in the residence hall but are offered space only after the needs of the required residency students have been met. CCAD does not provide housing for married students. The following persons are not required to live in a residence hall: • Students who are from the central Ohio area and are commuting to CCAD. • Students who are married or have been living with a domestic partner for an extended period of time (must be verified). • Students who will be living with a close relative while attending CCAD. This exception is provisional and may be denied by the college. For an exemption to be considered by the college, the director of residence life must receive a completed Residency Exemption Request Form at least two weeks prior to the start of classes. This form is available from the Admissions Office or from the Student Services counter. Students who choose to live in a residence hall, as well those who are required to do so, must sign a housing agreement for the entire academic year (fall and spring terms). Students admitted for spring term are only required to live on campus during that spring term. Resident AssistantsResident assistants are upperclass students who assist the director of residence life in providing service to residents and ensuring the safety and security of the building and residents. As representatives of CCAD, resident assistants are expected to enforce resident and campus policies and must be given due consideration and respect in the performance of these duties. Room ConsolidationDuring the academic year vacancies will occur within the residence halls. At this time residents originally requesting a double assignment will be offered to buy out their room as a single or potentially relocate to keep a double assignment. The College does this to be fair to all students and keep assignments accurate. Room EntranceNormally, the living quarters of students will not be entered by CCAD personnel without reasonable notice or cause. However, CCAD reserves the right to have its authorized personnel enter the rooms at any time to make needed repairs, when there is danger or an emergency, or when there is reason to suspect a violation of a residence hall or college policy. Regular inspection of the rooms is made by the director of residence life or designated school authorities. Request for repairs are considered authorization for CCAD or its personnel to enter the room any time after report of the need. Maintenance will knock before entering. Room TransfersStudents are not permitted to transfer rooms without permission. Students requesting a transfer must contact the director of residence life. Permission to transfer is not automatically given upon request. CCAD reserves the right to transfer students whenever appropriate; and students may not refuse any roommate assigned to their quarters. Upon transferring, students must turn in the key to their former room to the director of residence life and will be responsible for any damage to the room being vacated. Students who transfer rooms without going through proper channels may be required to return to their assigned room and/or be assessed disciplinary sanctions. SecurityThe Schottenstein Residence Hall and the Triad South Residence Hall are secured with locked entrances. Both halls are patrolled by security personnel and are staffed with resident assistants. Residents are further advised to remain aware of their own security responsibilities. Room doors must be kept locked at all times to guard against the threat of theft or assault. If roommates differ on how to maintain a secure room, they should contact their resident assistant or the director of residence life. Security DepositAll students living in residence halls are required to pay a security deposit, on or before the first day of occupancy. The amount is stipulated in the housing agreement. This deposit shall be held as security against damages and for unpaid fees. The deposit is held until the end of the academic year, at which time a thorough inspection of the premises is made and charges are determined. Students should expect the return of the remaining portion of their deposit approximately one month after the last day of scheduled departure of students from the residence halls after spring term. Skateboards and RollerbladesStudents may bring skateboards and rollerblades provided that CCAD property is not used for “ramping,” and that the activity is not a nuisance to the neighborhood. Skateboards and rollerblades are never to be used inside buildings. CCAD assumes no responsibility for property damage or injury resulting from the use of skateboards or rollerblades. SmokingResidence halls are nonsmoking buildings. Smoking is only permitted outside, and at a minimum distance of 25 feet from the front door. Smoking is expressly prohibited on the residence hall bridge to the front door, and violations may result in disciplinary action. Spray BoothA spray booth is located on the fourth floor of the Schottenstein Residence Hall and in the laundry room of the Triad South Residence Hall. All spraying must be done in the spray booth. At no time is spraying of projects to be done in the living quarters or in the hallways. Residents should notify the front desk staff when spray booths need repair. The spray booth is a common area. Any damage to the spray booth will be billed to all residents. Special ProjectsFrom time to time class projects require special needs. Please remember that when spraying or using any substances of toxic or volatile nature, you must do so outside residence halls. Propane torches, electric saws, or other mechanical or electrical devices cannot be used in residence halls. For extensive work on projects, the college has provided ample space and equipment in the north-end basement of Kinney Hall and in the Administration Buildng. A professional spray booth is also located in those areas. When working with potentially dangerous materials or tools, students should always work under appropriate supervision. Students are encouraged to use non dangerous materials whenever possible (e.g., paint and brush instead of spray cans). For your convenience and use, the shop area in Kinney Hall is open most evenings through the week until 9:30 p.m., as well as other times during the day. Students may also work in the construction area across from the shop until 2 a.m., Monday through Saturday, provided a work permit has been obtained from your instructor. Consult the appropriate lab policies as described in this handbook or posted in the labs. Student Identification CardFirst-year students will be issued student identification cards during orientation. Lost cards should be reported to the director of residence life immediately. A new ID card will be issued with a $25 replacement fee. Failure to produce your ID to residence hall staff at the front desk will result in a $25 fine after five occurrences. TrashWaste cans are provided in each room and trash liners are available upon request at the front desk. Residents are to carry and dispose of their trash to the dumpsters behind the building. Trash should never be set outside the door. Vacations and Term BreaksResidence halls remain open over Thanksgiving and spring break. Residents should be aware, however, that services are curtailed during these periods. The cafeteria is not in service and certain areas of the building may be shut down. Over term breaks, residence halls are closed. Residents must vacate the building on the day following the last day of class. The building will reopen on the weekend proceeding the first day of class. Residents who extend their stay past the contract period without being granted an exception will be assessed a fee of $25 per night. |
