Students also have a chance to meet individually with all division faculty and the division deans. During the freshman year, all students take the same basic foundation courses, which allow the first-term freshmen to be advised in groups. Freshmen can make individual appointments if there are special situations such as scheduling, disability, or transfer credits, or if they need assistance choosing a major. Individual appointments are required for all students who are sophomores and above. Commonly Asked Advising Questions (47 KB PDF) CCAD absence policyStudents are required to attend all classes on their schedule. Students who have three or more absences in a class that meets once a week, or four or more absences in a class that meets twice a week may receive a failing grade for that course. If students claim absences over the allowed limit for a class due to situations listed below, they must be directed to One Stop Student Services to submit an appeal. A student who is tardy three times in any scheduled course meeting once a week, or tardy six times in a course that meets twice a week may be charged one additional absence. Students arriving later than one-half hour after the beginning of class may be marked absent. A student leaving class early, without permission, will be considered absent. Absences may be considered when calculating for final grades. The opportunity to study independently with a faculty member should be limited to students in good standing, who, in the faculty member’s opinion, are able to organize their own studies, follow through with assignments and work independently with limited mentoring. Typically, these opportunities will be available only to juniors and seniors. Only full-time faculty members are eligible to accept independent studies, and no more than 3 in a semester. Students are limited to no more than 3 credits of independent study in one semester; total of 6 during the BFA program.
