MINORS

CCAD offers six minors: Art History, Art Therapy, Copywriting, Fine Arts, Media Studies, and Writing. The requirements for each of these minors can be found on IQ Web.

Students may minor in Art History by taking 18 total hours in the history of art and design offerings. Note that all students at CCAD, regardless of major, must take a total of 12 hours in Art History. If courses are chosen carefully, students can build an Art History minor into their program by taking two extra Art History classes.

Art Therapy is a human service profession that utilizes the arts for health, healing, and diagnostic purposes. Students may minor in Art Therapy by taking a total of 18 hours in Art Therapy and the social sciences as specified. Note that all students, regardless of major, must take 6 credit hours of social science. A minor in Art Therapy, therefore, requires a student to take four additional courses as specified on IQ Web.

For students interested in writing and advertising, Liberal Arts also offers a minor in Copywriting. To complete this minor, a student will need to take 18 total hours in English. The first 9 hours must include LA 190 Writing and the Arts; an LA 300- or 400- level literature-based course; and another LA 300- or 400-level course. The remaining 9 hours will come from the following courses: LA 492 Copywriting, LA 493 Advanced Copywriting and LA 488 Copywriting for the New Media.

Writing well is necessary for success in most visual art professions. Students may minor in Writing by taking a total of 18 hours in English. Note that all students, regardless of major, must take a total of 12 credit hours of English. By taking two additional classes and following the selection of writing courses specified on IQ Web, students may complete a minor in Writing.

Students wanting a minor must fill out and submit a “Declare or Change a Major/Minor Form” (48 KB PDF) to the One Stop Student Services front desk. Note that minors are not required and that students may have multiple minors. The minor(s) will be noted, along with the major, on students’ official CCAD transcripts at graduation.
