Learning Resource Center

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is a valuable resource that is available to all CCAD students. The LRC provides support to students at all levels as they seek to enhance their ability to communicate, problem-solve, and apply their creative skills as an artist or designer. The LRC includes a computer lab (Macintosh and PCs) equipped with specific software to assist students who have trouble with reading or those who may be auditory learners. In addition, the LRC offers programs and services to assist all CCAD students who may need help with acquiring skills such as time management, note-taking, organization/planning, and study skills. Students may also set an appointment with the Learning Support Services Director to discuss academic challenges and co-create a plan for improvement.

The LRC is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Below is a summary of the types of support available.

The Writing Workshop

Staffed by professional instructors who are available to serve as consultants and reviewers for writing projects in both liberal arts and studio-based courses. Students may stop by the Learning Resource Center to make a one-on-one appointment with a Writing Workshop consultant.

Subject Tutors

Available to students by appointment. Peer tutors are well-trained and prepared to offer advice or simply share insights on how to better understand and communicate with your instructors. Complete the on-line request form below to get connected with a subject tutor.

Study Skills Workshops

A series of workshops designed to help students transition to the demands of college and learn important academic skills. Past workshop topics have included: learning styles evaluation, limiting procrastination, time-management and organization skills, dealing with academic stress, and much more.

Assistive Technology

The Learning Resource Center is equipped with Macintosh computers that include the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Premium, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Acrobat Pro. In addition, PCs are available with specialized text-to-speech technology (Kurzweil 3000 system) that reads scanned texts aloud. All students may access these and other software systems that support English language fluency, reading comprehension, and effective writing skills.
